If you have heard of break-ins in your neighborhood, you might be wondering whether it is time to have your locks changed.
One sure way to avoid someone compromising your locks is to have a keyless lock installed. This is where a keypad is installed and you simply enter a code that will enable you to unlock your doors. Many find this extremely helpful against theft but also because it is convenient. With a keyless lock, you can give anyone the code and later change it again.
You can also create temporary codes that will only be good for a specified amount of time. There is little to no risk of having this type of lock installed. However, in some cases, this isn’t a practical solution. However, for anyone who chooses to have a keyless lock installed, make sure you always remember to change the code after you have authorized entry to service providers. Unfortunately, we have noticed that far too many people forget to change the code or they do not enter a temporary code. This is dangerous because if you allow contractors in to do a job, they could still have access into your home.
Now, you may and trust the actual person that you hired for a particular job. However, this doesn’t mean that you know everyone who works with them. Perhaps one day, one of their employees calls out and you need someone to replace them. They call on someone who they worked with on a previous job to stand in for them. You don’t know the person and neither does your contractor. However, at this point, this person now has your code. This could spell danger. This is why it is so important to make sure your codes are always changed once you have allowed someone access into your home.
To be safe about matters, we would suggest that you only change the code or give it out when absolutely necessary. If you are afraid that you will not remember to change the code, this is probably going to be your best option.
